Bulgaria, a country with a historical and cultural heritage, and attractive natural landscapes, is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Europe. Tourism, as an industry, has been an important source of economic growth. In 2007 Bulgaria was visited by 5.2 million tourists, measured as outlined by the World Tourism Organization. Tourists from the top 3 countries - Greece, Romania and Germany, account for 40% of all visitors.

In 2008 Bulgaria is estimated to welcome 6 million visitors. The country has historical cities and towns, summer beaches, and mountain ski resorts. New types of tourism, including cultural, architectural and historic tours, eco-tourism, and adventure tours, expand the range of services available to visitors.The eastern Bulgarian coastis washed by the Black Sea. 380 km marvelous strech of beaches, calm and safe sea, clear water and healthy air, fine golden sand and natural dunes, mineral water springs, blue flag winning resorts, holiday villages and campsites. Average air temperature in the summer is about 28В°C, water temperature - 25В°C. There are more than 240 hours of sunshine in May and September and more than 300 hours in July and August. The two international airports of Varna and Bourgas connects the Bulgarian Riviera to the world.

During the winter you can choose from going skiing, trekking or snowboarding, walking in pine-tree forests, to the nearest chalets or just having a rest at the

hotel in a cosy atmosphere. The major ski centers are located in the south-western part of Bulgaria. There are three world-famous winter resorts in three great Bulgarian mountains here. The Rila Mountain has BOROVETZ.

The Pirin Mountain has BANSKO. The Rodopi Mountain has PAMPOROVO. There are also several smaller ski centers such as ALEKO in the Vitosha Mountain, Semkovo and Panichishte in the Rila Mountain, Dobrinishte in the Pirin Mountain. They all offer winter sport facilities and wonderful conditions for a winter holiday. Sun and snow guaranteed! The active ski season is from late December to the end of April.

Bulgaria offers also great opportunities for historic and cultural tourism - old fortresses, museum towns, monasteries, treasures, old Bulgarian capitals etc.
